Vague plot details about Guardians 2 revealed
Very little can be said about where the Guardians are headed after their first adventure together, since the film hasn't even started filming but if there's one man who can tell us it's Director James Gunn. Gunn is currently promoting the bluray/DVD release of GOTG so he spoke to the folks over at screenrant and had this to say about the speculation that GOTG 2 will focus on Peter Quill's search for his father. “It’s funny, I don’t want to blackbox it too much. You know what I mean? Yeah, it’s like, we’ll find out who is dad is, and it’s going to serve the story. It’s not going to be something like in the Crying Game, though, where the big thing was, ‘He has a penis!’ [or The Sixth Sense's big twist]. I don’t want to do that. It’s not about the revelation of who it is; it’s about what his relationship is to that character." See the full story and more at Screenrant.com HERE.
What to watch: Nightcrawler (2014)
Intense, raw and riveting are three strong and simple words one can use to describe Nightcrawler.
Jake Gyllenhaal plays Louis Bloom an ambitious yet unemployed young man who on the surface seems cool, calm and collected but due to his ridiculously high sense of determination isn't afraid to do something crazy to succeed. While in search of a job Louis stumbles upon a car accident and witnesses firsthand the vulture like profession that is Freelance Crime Journalism. In a surprisingly quick manner Louis climbs his way up the media ladder and starts to build a name for himself.
This movie has amazing pacing! The first act sets up this interesting character we don't know much about while the second act turns it up a notch and starts to show just what our lead character is capable of doing to reach his goal. The third and final act kicks it in to high gear and takes things to a new level showing us just how dark and sinister Louis can be.
Aside from the Gyllenhaal's amazing performance that I'm sure will get him a nomination for best actor at the academy awards, we get good performances from the supporting cast Rene Russo did a great job while Riz Ahmed really shines for a lesser known as the nervous and sheepish assistant Rick. Bill Paxton plays a good character and was almost unrecognizable as the rival journalist Joe Loader.
This film is intense and gives great commentary on the way media treats violent crime as a way to make money and the way we as an audience eat it all up (also see gone girl for this). While the entire movie is solid and good what really shines is the Louis Bloom character who is very reminiscent of Christian Bale's American Psycho in that the main evil is our Lead character. This movie is dark and morbid but I don't think it's anything we haven't already seen in true events on Nightly news so that shouldn't be too off putting for anybody. So do I recommend checking this out? Absolutely! It's one of the years best and I'm hoping this will make a lot more money through word of mouth and DVD/Bluray sales so Hollywood knows we want more great films like this. Rating:Full Price and even buy it when it's available.

What to watch or not: Ouija (2014)
Based on every middle schoolers nightmares, Ouija brings to life (or death) the infamous spirit board! Full of jump scares and poor acting, this movie is sure to be a favorite with 11-13 year olds the world over. I really didn't expect much going into this and wasn't really surprised when I almost died of boredom. Scene after scene of lackluster attempts at frights and a very predictable story left me hoping a spirit would kill me in a ridiculous manner.
I don't understand how movies like this still manage to make money in the box office. I mean the budget for this snooze fest was 5 million dollars and it somehow managed to make 20 million on opening weekend. As of November 13 it's made 45 million and that is the reason we'll be seeing a spinoff or sequel/prequel by next year (I'm calling that now).
Sure some might find this bland excuse for horror entertaining but I sure as hell didn't so I can't recommend this at all. I know I'm not a huge horror fan so my opinion is somewhat biased but this was just a chore to watch and every so often I was checking the time to see if it was almost over. Please don't give the producers your hard earned money so they can have an excuse to pump out generic pieces of crap like this. Rating: SKIP!

What to watch: Nebraska (2013)
I had heard about Nebraska from last years Oscars since it was nominated for six academy awards but I hadn't gotten around to watching it.
Somber, depressing and frustrating are all words I could use to describe this film but they're definitely not used in a negative way. Watching this is supposed to make you feel that way since it's a story about a mild mannered middle aged man dealing with his alcoholic and somewhat senile father. Many might see Will forte as a main character and think Comedy but this is a more serious role for forte although some lighthearted humor is present. The scenery is beautifully shot and the cinematography is one of the films best parts indeed but what stands out the most is how real and relatable these characters felt. This film can be described as "an ode to getting old" and you definitely sympathize with the father character's delusional and stubborn mission to find his pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
What to watch: St.Vincent (2014)
Bill Murray's best performance in ages! This one is easily one of my favorites of the year and it's full of big laughs and touching moments.
Although somewhat predictable this film is wonderful all the way around with solid performances even from Melissa McCarthy (whom I hope decides to stick to these types of roles.) Bill Murray plays Vincent McKenna a drunkard Vietnam vet who not surprisingly also has a gambling problem. After moving in next door, Oliver a child who's too smart for his own good befriends the grumpy old man and finds his way under the supervision of Vincent.
Like I said before the movie is somewhat predictable but enjoyable nonetheless. Jaeden Leiberher delivers a great film debut performance and really ties the film together to really make you care about all the characters. If I had to say something negative about the film it'd be (SPOILER WARNING) "Oliver's father is at first portrayed in a negative light but once he's introduced he's somewhat nice I guess. It makes no sense almost as if they were planning to make him and his intentions an antagonist of sorts but decided to scrap that idea entirely." (END SPOILERS)
Overall the movie was fun, funny and heartwarming with very little flaws. I could definitely recommend this to just about anybody.

Rating: Matinee (although I don't think this had a very wide release so you may have to look around for theaters still showing this or wait for it to arrive on bluray and DVD.)

Not news or anything just amusing to me.
I asked Rian Johnson about what he has planned for Star Wars ep.8 since he's attached to direct. The Looper director had this to say.

Rumor: Russo bros. might direct Avengers: Infinty war.

It's safe to say the brothers will have many of marvels biggest films on their hands if this goes through and I'm wishing them the best of luck. I was greatly pleased with what they did with the Captain America storyline so I'm eager to see what it is they can do with something even bigger. Again this is still just a rumor so we're waiting on confirmation from marvel execs. See the full story at Comicbook.com

Daniel Bruhl Cast in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War
The Inglorious Basterds and Rush actor has reportedly joined the marvel universe in an unknown role.
Judging by his previous roles as an antagonist, I'm thinking this sort of casting will continue in the highly anticipated Civil War.
This film will be up against Batman vs Superman in 2016 so marvel is looking to make this a big one so I'll be keeping an eye on any news for this movie. Check out the full story at Marvel.com HERE.
What to Watch: Following (1998)
I recently saw Interstellar and it got me thinking about Christopher Nolan and his filmography, I came across his directorial debut.
Following (1998)
Plot Summary: A young writer who follows strangers for material meets a thief who takes him under his wing. The film is very different from the scale and quality that we've grown accustomed to when it comes to nolan's work, but that is obviously due to the fact that this film had a minuscule budget of 6,000 dollars american. Watching this movie felt very much like Nolan though and it was apparent that he's drawn much of his inspiration for his more current films from here. There's an ominous character named Cobb who plays a sly thief like in inception and the movie has a nonlinear timeline much like memento.
This movie is very hard to sell to a wide audience now because it is very much a character driven Neo noire and it's not the prettiest film to look at, in fact this feels like a project that could've been made by a student while in film school but that very well may be the case when it comes to how this movie came be. What we have here is an odd yet gripping story about a writer who befriends the wrong person at the wrong time. The writing is solid and serves it's purpose of telling an interesting story with twists and turns that will keep you thinking right until the end. The performances by the actors are sub par but that's not surprising and at one point during a scene which shows a scuffle between the two main characters it's kind of hard to watch since it's very poorly choreographed if at all but again this kind of thing should be expected. Like many of Nolan's films it seems the score is important to the feeling of the movie and although it's very raw and minimalistic the score here is fitting and gives the film an unsettling sense of urgency that I found wonderful.
Now all this being said this movie is definitely not for everybody so I can't flat out recommend this. The film is slow to start but at just over an hour you wouldn't be losing much anyway. If you're interested in Nolan's roots I'd say check this one out especially since it's the only Nolan feature on Netflix right now.

Rating: If you're a film buff and a fan of Nolan I'd give this a high matinee but for the general audience I'd say a rental.

Christoph Waltz to join the cast of Bond 24
Two time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz had reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming Bond film but it is still unclear who he'll play.
Baz Bamigboye of Dailymail.com tweeted the news and reports that the actor will begin shooting in December in various countries around the world. Waltz will play the villain in Horrible Bosses 2 which is set to release later this month. Whether he'll play a villain in Bond 24 is still unknown, but Bamigboye had this to say "He will play a ‘significant’ role in the untitled Bond 24 movie that will begin filming early next month.
However, I am told that the part is a complex one. ‘It’s not immediately evident whether the part’s friend, or foe, or a bit of both,’ a person who has knowledge of the screenplay told me."

Jai Courtney in talks to play Deadshot in Suicide Squad
More casting news for David Ayers DC team up film!
It seems Jai Courtney is the top choice for the batman based villain in Suicide Squad. Margot Robbie was recently cast as Harley Quinn and that seems like a solid casting decision. Jared Leto is also rumored to play The Joker but still no solid confirmation. We can expect several other confirmation/rumors of casting for this film in the upcoming weeks so I'll be keeping an eye on that. See the full story at Collider.com HERE.
